Scotland - Day 4 of 7 - Saturday, Oct. 12 - Travel Day

October 2024 - 11th Scottish Adventure
Standard 7 days (click here for explanation)

Dahlwinnie to Kingussie

Finally breaking up my tent again today.
Normally there are weeks when I do this 6 times
but so this adventure only 2 times.

Walking to Dahlwinnie station.
By train to Kingussie station.
Setting up tent again.

3 Munro’s this day:

A’Bhuidheanach Bheag – Carn Na Caim – Meall Chuaich

Will sound very deadened but once my
full backpack “hangs” it’s also great hiking again.

Very good backpack with a perfect hip belt
(see Gear above right)
and of course adjust the pace.

Good news is that this is completely automatic!

I love processes!
That’s a very unusual coming out on a hiking site
but if you pay attention you’ll run into them everywhere.

I used to make, part of, my living at it and
I’m sure there are people who still hate me
because I have streamlined their work
so that it has become
more efficient, transparent and consistent
among other things where you can also,
how wonderful is that,
report on it!

What is its relation to this day? a ladle!
Check out the photo below and the delivery process
of this delicious tavern is clear;
you order, pay, get a ladle with
a number on it and sit down
after which your order is prepared and delivered to your table.

‘I know that from Mc. Donalds’ you will say.
But please check out the site first but especially
the last photo of this page

And claim your ladle when you once
are in the neighborhood!

Here the link to this blissful place about which I can marvel every time
That I encounter them everywhere in Scotland, thankfully.

Fact that I was the only one sitting outside, had indicated
that I could be recognized by a backpack
with 2 walking sticks but still a ladle,
with also a very high number namely 68,

made my ‘process heart’
beat faster;
no exceptions indeed!

Most Beautiful Video

The last Munro of this adventure in the late afternoon of this beautiful day.

Details
this day

1. Farewell A9

From now on completely agree with everyone who curses this road!
Especially if you have to walk past it in the dark because you can’t plan routes (or don’t want to detour, which might be even fairer)

2. TOO delicious!

It is that I had an appointment, with myself, in Kingussie otherwise I would still be at The Apiary right now. In the photo it is impossible to capture what all these “homemade indulgences made with local products” look and taste like.

3. Train ride

Short ride from Dahlwinnie to Kingussie during which I waited for a while in the waiting area of the station that can bear the title ‘Museum’.
Beautiful photos with text including one about a visit by General Montgomery during the last phase of WWII. He parked his private train here for a few days to finalize plans for the landings during D-Day.
Check out the highlight ‘Dahlwinnie Station’ of my Komoot map above
(or this link) for the photos and text; impressive!

Walked into valley last night, pitched tent for a wonderful last day with 4 Munros.
