Scotland 'Dahlwinnie 7 - Kingussie 4'

October 2024 - 11th Scottish Adventure
Standard 7-day Scottish Adventure (click here for explanation)

Started from Station Dahlwinnie and Station Kingussie for 11 Munros

Duration: 7 days, 6 nights
Region: Loch Ericht to Glen Tromie and
Glen Garry – Cairngorms
Mileage: 116
Ascent: 6060 meters

Like every (Scottish) adventure, this time we made a plan for a week in which each time it depends on the circumstances (the weather) how many miles will eventually be walked

11 Munro’s during this adventure:

Geal-Chárn (Drumochter) – A Mharconaich – Beinn Udlamain – Sgairneach Mhor
A’Bhuidheanach Bheag – Carn Na Caim – Meall Chuaich
Mullach Clach a Bhlair
Beinn Bhrotain – Sgor Gaoith – Monadh Mor – Beinn Bhrotain

Flown to Inverness for the 2nd time this adventure. So the last 8 adventures this was Glasgow.

The reason for this I explain on this page.

Wonderful to be in Inverness again!
So had been here once before, see the report of my “9th Scottish Adventure.
So at the time we spent a month in Aviemore.

While last time this was the second to last stop, during this adventure it was the final stop!

I will scan in the best photos from that month of Aviemore
(are real, printed photos now because this was in 1988 !!!)
and then post them on the site.

For now this trip which, divided into days, is shown in the image below.

Most Beautiful Video

This time no video of my own but a taste of what soon my drone footage will look like!

Wonderful!

Details

1. A whole week on the road with only 2 tent locations

Normally I am happy if I can leave my tent in the same place for 2 nights because then I don’t have to take it with me! This adventure I was able to leave the tent up for THE WHOLE WEEK.

2. A9 is indeed a very busy road!

On the unsurpassed WalkHighLands, I regularly read the most horrific stories from fellow Munro Baggers about the traffic jams on this road.

Disadvantage of the first 3 days of this adventure was that I literally walked along the A9 and it is indeed very busy! 😉

3. Lighter is not always easier, especially when it gets dark

In 1988! visited this beautiful country for the first time and now finally back to the location from where I first had the opportunity to hike through this beautiful area for a month back then.

Day 1

By train to Aviemore and deliberately did my shopping there.

Day 2

The first Munro.

Day 3

Tent leave (Sunday rest day!) for Munro 2 and 3.

Day 4

With full packs Munro 4 to then set up tent for Munro 5.

Day 5

Again with full packs a Munro to then ditch my pack for Munro 7.

Day 6

Walked into valley last night, pitched tent for a wonderful last day with 4 Munros.

Day 7

Last day hiked out of the valley to hike, via Rothiemurchus Lodge, back to Aviemore station.

First I ate a HUGE burger before taking the train to Inverness.
