Scotland 'Newtonmore 9' Day 7 of 7 - Saturday, April 13
April, 2024 Standard 7 days (click here for explanation)Back in Inverness!
These are secretly wonderful days;
your legs feel like you’ve hiked a whole week of Munro’s.
All the food is gone.
The laundry bag for ‘used socks and underpants is full.
The sleigh bags that hold the clean underpants and socks are empty.
High time to get back to civilization.
Literally reconnect.
On the train or bus already enjoying the warmth and comfort.
Last bit of walking from the station.
My hotel.
A shower, maybe even a bath.
A real meal!
Usually a thick burger with fries,
occasionally a delicious steak or fish at the hotel.
Mountain boots off, normal shoes on.
Another bit of walking from the hotel.
And finally back home.
HUGE!!!
0 Munro’s this day:
Zero! so
Flew to Inverness for the first time this adventure. For the last eight adventures, this was Glasgow.
The “why” I explain on
this page
.
Wonderful to be in Inverness again! Had been here before when we spent a month in Aviemore in a previous life. This was now the last stop before I got off in Newtonmore so another great trip down memory lane!
I will scan the best photos from that month of Aviemore (are real, printed, photos now, was in 1988!!! 🫢😀) and post them on the site.
Most Beautiful Video
Of course I was still expecting snow but when I woke up on the morning of the 3rd day and suddenly
(the night before everything was still green) there was a pack of snow I thought it was very special.
Beautiful images!

this day
1. Cab tip!
Normally, I always try to walk to a train station or bus stop at the end of an adventure. If this fails I book, well in advance, a cab. In this region herewith the tip to call Cloudy’s Taxi. (Region Fort William & Lochaber and so, very, very far around that.
Reached via this Website and then via WhatsApp; TOP!
2. Relativize
While waiting for the Taxi in the parking lot of the beautiful Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve, I struck up a conversation with an American couple.
They lived at 7500 Meters (after some conversion from Ft.) and from there they go skiing in the Rocky Mountains at 10,000 Meters.
Furthermore, we agreed that Scotland is beautiful!
3. Train ride
From / to Glasgow is also now standard by train, sometimes by bus. This was another new experience with new, and familiar, stops which also made it more fun.
